Shenzen; ealry morning dust filled particle haze, nothing unusual there. It reminded Chi of waking up in Los Angeles (USA) where he had been for the last year studying new tech innovation.  Mask on and out of the family home leaving others to clear up the mess the kids had made the night before after their return from cram classes.

His kids were smart. Most of his colleagues when knocking back drinks shared and food to celebrate his return were quick to praise them. “They’re so cute and they definitely take after you.” It was nice to know that it was not unwarranted sucking up to the boss praise scenario.

“Chang is furious.” Chi knew what that was about. “His daughter has run off with that mongolian pig, rumour has it that she has married him.” Retorts in general re recent events were not in the least bit contained re abuse that followed such a statement.

“Her father has issued a statement that she is to be regarded as cast off. Word is out on all, anyone seeing them has to report their whereabouts back to him. Banking and business connections locked out, assets seized. She’s really done it this time. we think he will insist she divorces the mongol or face being an outcast until she does what he wants.”

“Seizure of her shares and more including her apartment building is in progress.” Sio shook her head knowing all too well Changying or Chai as she affectionately, called her, had been smitten by the mongol Toimi when she had taken a holiday with her on the ‘steppes’.

True he was a superb horse rider, his family breeding horses had made a modest living doing so and were to most in the sense of class, low to middle at most. Debt? A large proportion of their stock of horses, their land and domicile; tied up and locked down as loan security.

Some ties to the Russian mafia had been intimated and certainly on their holiday Sio had been more than aware that certain males present at a gathering were aggressive. rude, arrogant and making it clear they could make demands, create mayhem and throw their weight around with impunity.

Once or twice Toimi had been taken to one side of the dwelling and a fat ugly gross, so Sio muttered under her breath, Russian looking mutt. had growled at him to follow his plan or pay up the outstanding debt.

What Sio did not know and would soon discover to her horror too late, was how the plan would unfold to weave a web so finite to trap Chai and trick her into marrying Toimi. It would have her face the wrath of her father who was less than disposed to believe that she could not have been a party to the events that followed. Guilty as charged? As for Chai’s father, his fury was demonstrated by having her lose her position as an executive accountant within his hotel business.

Meanwhile all that had been carefully orchestrated came to fruition. Taresku the Russian mutt as Sio had called him, was securing the life insurance to the tune of several million made against the life of Chai. The arrangement made with a reputable Chinese based insurance company was processed without a hitch.

Unknown to Chai she now had life insurance that would pay out in the event of her dying to the tune of several millions all to the Russian mafia? It would pay off, if he followed the plan; all of Toimi’s debts and release the security against their assets, in particular their dwelling, their stock.

“To thiink we were going to kidnap and ransom the bitch, this is far better way of making money without the risks involved.” Xyulov grinned. “I have to give it to you boss, Toimi takes all the risks, if it goes wrong he’ll face charges of murder, but even he knows if he doesn’t do what we tell him his family will.” He ran his fingers across his throat.

The Russian who stuck by Toimi’s side was a youth of some twenty five years. Heavier build than Toimi and muscular in stature, he had been recruited as an established ‘long term family friend’ and taken along to do general chores such as driving the couple around apart from other chores.

Once the marriage documentation had been signed and sealed, it was disconcerting to some that Chai had chosen and insisted on taking her honeymoon in the Caribbean? Taresku was not put out in the least which surprised Xyulov.

“Am I without some compassion? Let her have some pleasure it won’t be at our expense and does it matter whtere the bitch dies? Just pick an opportune time and place to do it, BUT!” His voice changed as he hissed at Xyulov. “Make sure that it is clean and we get the payout on the life insurance without any unnecessary delays re questions being asked or suspicious death being intimated.”

Chi was now aware of the contents of the document on his desk, a copy of the marriage registration as he noted the names of the witnesses. Strangers probably off the street or present at the registration simply picked to be witnesses. Finding them might be of some use but he doubted of any real significance.

Chang her father had scrunched the document copy in the palm of his hand, thrown it into the bin at his feet the fury all too clearly seen across his face. “Where are they now?” “They flew out to somewhere in the Caribbean. I’m going to send some of my best men to find them.”

“Don’t waste their time. Leave them be, she defied me and married him, As far as I am concerned, she is dead to me; as of now, do not mention her name ever again to me.” He poured himself a drink, sipped it before turning to face Chi.

“Make sure that we tie up as much of the capital. assets and other benefits she had given to her, that she currently thinks she owns, to ensure she will never benefit from her previous life.”
Chi knew it would leave Chai penniless but worse still, without family, any connections to aid her existence, her being.

Family was everything, what Chai had done violated all that was sacred in her defiance, immoral, insane even, actions and activities. To think she could get away with what she had done without consequences? Was never going to happen in her lifetime, let alone anyone else.

“Did we transfer the funds.” Chai nodded. “My father will have tried to seize as much as he can to see us without money, somewhere to live and more. We have at least a million AND I can sell the stocks I own, my father can’t stop the sale of those. That will release at least another million, the rest I can tie up in legal to make sure he can’t sell or dispose of it.”

This was adding up. Toimi might have been a little simplistic but unknown to many including Chai, he was particularly astute when it came to business and making money even if he had to lie, to steal to get it how he wanted it. So far with the insurance payout included the sum was now over 6 million.
If he took the money and took off after he had disposed of her AND Xylov?

But, Taresku would almost certainly seek revenge if not kill his family? 6 million, he could go anywhere, do anything with that. What if he let her live? Chai loved him, he loved her but she treated him as being less than business savvy, an ornament for her lust, her passion, her toy boy!
Leave the thinking to me might well have been an accurate depiction of this situation.

No she had to go and leave him in control. Whilst she had been planning the Caribbean trip much against his wishes, he had wanted to go to the Philippines for reasons unknown to her but well versed in his thoughts re his future plans that did not include her. It would also have been easier to kill her and convince the local police et of how she had died and more.

Setting up the kill zone in the Caribbean had been expensive with hiring the boat and spending out money in other directions that were naturally more expensive there. The cost of one meal was equivalent to a years money back home. Still, he was becoming more and more into having money and spending it as he liked, even for the moment she controlled it and spent it how she wanted, restricting his spending by denying him certain purchases.

The Rolex watch. If anything had been a trigger for his getting rid of her it might have seemed petty to some but that day his eyes feasted upon it and he had ‘reserved’ it by paying a nominal sum for the jeweler to hold it for him? She had phoned and canceled it. “You don’t need a Rolex, if we are to go forward and survive without my father the last thing we need is you wasting money on that, you’re not the Rolex type of guy honey.”

It would be the last thing she would ever be alive; to deny him.
