Seasonal Christmas story

‘Once upon a Christmas’

"She's got out of the washing up again.” Mia could hear them talking. She grinned,. sat down and picked up the Wii remote. Bowling, or skittles? She was good at both. Doubted he could be! Time to create a Wii character for Mama and herself! She giggled at seeing HIS Wii character created by Nina. Time for some fun!

"So how much, do you think that Bentley is worth?" Sandy stopped drying the plate, placed it onto the top of the work surface. Turned to look at him. He was searching for something, a drawer open here, now closed. Another drawer open. She did not see the plate she had just dried, rise off the side and slide into the bowl of water in the sink.

"Not a clue!" "You are seriously NOT telling me, that you, have NO idea of what that is worth? What a Mint condition, Bentley speed 6, would sell for?" He shook his head.
When father bought it, he wouldn't let me see how much he paid. Said mother couldn't beat it out of me, if I didn't know!" He started laughing.

"You've never wondered?" "Nope." He smiles. She shakes her head. "Got the drivers records. owners details, logs? Maintenance schedules and other bits..?" Terry steps over to a drawer, slides it open, takes out a large leather case.

Stepping over to the kitchen table, the contents are now spread out across it. Susie picks up several of the documents. Carefully repacks them, back into the leather case. "300,000, but that one?!

In it's condition, cleaned and renovated. I would reckon it would sell easily for
over 400,000 pounds. With those documents showing provenance, I would have set its value closer to 500,000.

How long ago did you say your father died?" "Feb this year." "You are telling me, you never wondered how much that car was worth?" She paused as she put the last document into the case and closed it.

"Well, I kind of left it until now. Thought I would clean it up and have it valued. I admit after this time, it needs cleaning. Chrome and other bits need polishing up. I see father left rodent and other pest traps plus the pellets to keep pests off the leather, out of the car.
The ring of salt around the car, not to keep the devil at bay!" He grins. But slugs!"

"Ugghh yes! Mia!" Mia came running in. "We're staying here, until HE, comes to his senses!" She looked at them both. "Leaving a beautiful Bentley like that, here without anyone to love it and cherish it! All these months!" Mia had no clue whatsoever what the heck Mama was on about! Sandy was not lost for words in telling her.

So that was why that outbuilding was so big! Glancing out of the window, it was snowing some more. Cold. Bitterly cold? Hmm a trip to the barn, on Mia's part to be nosey, could wait. In the meantime a can of Coca cola would be more than welcoming.

"Do you realize it could have been stolen! The car stripped would be worth a fortune in recycled parts. Restorers would pay a mint for them. Whoever sold your father the car only has to tell someone who would be interested in stealing it and its gone!" Terry was laughing.

"Would you like me to put a bed in the shed. Mia giggled. She knew her mothers passion for vintage cars. Granddad! Sandy stepped close to him, pulled him in. Eyes on eyes.
"I was feeling guilty, about staying on, as I don't have much money of my own, BUT now!

As your, 'housekeeper', keeper for that fine vehicle, Sir! To prevent it from getting stolen. With my mechanical aptitude thrown in and, the technical skills of my daughter. I feel, you, are the one getting a very good deal indeed!" Terry was grinning.

"Tea, sir?" "Actually, I fancy a coffee!" Terry reached down, opened one of the cupboards and took out a filter coffee maker, stood it on the top and plugged it in.

"Filters?" Now where did I put those. As for the coffee." Opening the cupboard he retrieved the items, placed them onto the worktop.

"I'll be back!" She watched him leave "You need to work on your Arnie! I'll make the coffee shall I." More laughter.

Elsewhere Miranda had received the latest documents with payments on a recent case they had completed. A definite bonus before Christmas. Tim’s had resolved to effect the computer cyber attack on Christmas Eve.

Everyone would finish early to head over to the local bar for drinks and a small pre Christmas celebration meal paid for by Terry. He was on the phone talking to his co conspirator in that particular bar unaware that sat watching him was Jodi.

Jodi was sat sipping on a Vodka and tonic waiting for Miranda. Although Tim’s knew of Jodi, he had not met her in person; well not directly; Miranda had pointed him out to her and mentioned her reservations about him. It was not difficult given the loudness of his voice for her to overhear his conversation.

“I’ll have to watch that bitch Miranda. The last thing I want to do is arouse her suspicions, believe me she’s a right nosey cow. I’ll call you on Thursday, by that time I’ll have the keys cut.”

So what did he not want Miranda to know? It was nothing unusual for someone to talk about having keys cut, he had moved into a new apartment ? Jodi would say nothing to Miranda but would talk to Louis and ask him to keep an eye on the creep for her. She was sure he was definitely up to no good but what?
