Seasonal Christmas story

‘Once upon a Christmas’

"Will you look at this. The mess. At least the old codgers cleared up after themselves."
"That tree looks pretty." "Aye the bairn! I had a laugh when she was putting ornaments on the tree!

She turned around to fetch the next one, I took one off the tree waited for her to start putting it on the tree whilst I slipped the other back in the box. The look on her face!"

"Thomas Lamb! That won't get you any closer to redemption, teasing a poor lass like that. As for her mother. That were funny with her washing the dishes.. I kept taking the clean plate and putting it back into the water. She must have washed the same plate at least a dozen times!"

“The poor lass, she's had her thoughts on other things. I can tell she likes him and there's you misbehaving!” “Stop whining woman. It’s Christmas, I’m entitled to have some fun.
At least, it isn’t HIM on his own, though that might have been interesting.

Do they still have that place nearby?" She glanced at him, grinned. "The Asylum? Unfortunately not. Otherwise I feel you would have been one of its most frequent visitors, given the fact you would probably have felt quite at home there."

If anyone had been the perfect candidate for the ‘Asylum’ Sandy might have agreed that Shaun was indeed a suitable inmate. Not that he was, at this time on her mind which might have been a good thing, not knowing that is what he had planned.

Parked at the front of the Insurance offices. Striding towards the car and inserting the key that Shaun had earlier, stolen off his fathers desk, procured when he had graciously delivered a Christmas card?

The car roared into life, as he eased it off the side road and on to the main road. Bilsden; next stop. From there he would soon find out where she was.

On the passenger seat, was a solid wood baseball bat, he desired to make, a good impression, mostly on whoever she had shacked up with to escape his goodwill.

The countryside, a perfect place for a burial, so he had also included a shovel. The drive, would not be without problems, his current inebriated state, gave rise to minimal sensibilities on his part, luckily the car was an automatic.

As for the blasted weather, in just a few hours, it had worsened to the point where the roads particularly the side roads had become treacherous. Add to that, the danger of black ice on the roads, hidden by the snowfall earlier.

The gritting lorry in front of him, slowed him down. He cursed as he glanced at his watch. Removing a bottle from the bag, he undid the top and swigged it back.
Just what he needed; Cider, dulled his senses.

It would be late in the day, when he arrived in Bilsden. Forced to stop for several hours, he slid the seat back and reclining it; fell asleep. Now he was refreshed and adrenalin flushed, ready to seek her out!

A major problem, was a side road. Not gritted and with the underlying ice, the car lurching, almost sliding across the snow. Slow and steady.. never mind how long it took.. she was going nowhere any time soon.

For Terry, the morning started as any would. Cept it was of fast approaching Christmas Eve.
The snow, the cold morning air and clearing the snow off her car. enough to cover the car with a tarp and no sooner had he secured it than the snow started again, this time another thick snowfall.

Sandy was in the kitchen and Mia was tucking into cereal, as he appeared at the door.
“Tea? “ He nodded, went to sit down facing Mia.

“So Miss! How about helping me, make a snowman.“ Mia did think it was a little below her, as she mumbled, 'pay grade', but decided to humor him. As for her mother, who was obviously enjoying the idea?! “Sounds good to me.“

Terry had moved to stand next to Sandy; facing away from Mia to grab a quick kiss? If they thought they had not been observed, they were wrong! Mia smiled to herself though it did not last; her mothers phone buzzed, momentary panic?

Mia had picked it up and answered it.“ “Suki. Hi! Yes away for the hols. Not sure when I’ll be back, will tell you all the goss later.“ She shifted off the chair and headed into the main room, to continue talking.

“Suki and her, have been friends for some time, they’re originally from Hong Kong, when it was given back to China, her parents decided to emigrate to the UK. They took over a run down fish and chip shop, to turn it into a Chinese take away.“

Some minutes later, Mia returned with the phone, as Sandy and Terry parted to sit at the table. “I didn’t tell Suki, Mama where we are! Seasons greeting and all that.“ She grinned passed her mother the phone.

“I know you would like one of your own Mia, I had thought about giving you one for Christmas, so the thought was there!
I still want you to know, you will get one; in the meantime, you can use mine.”

There appeared to be a mutual understanding that they both had more important issues to address first. Saying nothing, Mia had felt quite happy with a sense that when, she got the phone; it would not be taken off her and probably pawned or trashed, by that animal they had left behind them.

Day 20 starts here.
