Joseph had taken Naomi to swim in a nearby river. Isolated and NOT visited by locals. A decent hours ride from his place but the isolation meant they could be together and feel more relaxed?
Something on her mind? “YOU Massuh are going to have to be harsh with me when around them other folks OR they will be thinking I am giving airs and graces that do not belong to a slave. Those who took the lives of those on the Arabella, IF they were to find out I was one who lived, I cannot see YOU at their mercy.”
Joseph had managed, to acquire some false bill of sale papers, detailing her as his property. That was NOT the issue. Around him, she, was treated as his woman and that, for any who did not believe a savage to have any rights would see him talking to her as just that OR believe that she had some power over him, that could end up with a lot of questions.
Magic, witches, spells and those kinds of what we today would denounce as being crazy.. in those days not so much so. Even Naomi believed in the spirits, the Gods and for her good reason to . HE was everything she loved in a male. Kind, responsible, loving and caring.
BUT she already knew that that was a recipe for trouble. IF he had taken her to his bed she was pleased that he had however she had had a room off his with a basic straw bed, that to any visiting, would leave no doubts as her place; the rough, almost barren servants quarters.
To be continued.
