RAPTOR
The Raptor, Nathan once commented, is a beast, a wild untamed animal, with the ferocity of its name sake and the brains capabilities of a Galicia Dominator class 7 Sovereign Class battle cruiser, 4 times its size. The Raptor now moved so that the Zmet was just visible.
‘What the hell is that’ Czehort Yow was staring at the Raptor his jaw dropped his eyes looking up and down the length of what he could make out was a more than imposing piece of armour. The massive encroaching frame of Raptor was to him, an image from one of his worst nightmares.
Its outer haul shimmered, as it slowly moved closer to them, a huge vast and imposing beast. A voice interrupted his thoughts. “We are almost ready to deploy our weapon, I have the Protectorate Absolute Lelanora on screen 3, wishing to observe destruction of the smaller craft, which matches our data for the intruders.”
So she had decided to watch the destruction of the Zimp, an assurance that Cistera had been killed? No! Murdered by her captives! Lelanora’s voice could now be heard, “Greetings Czehort Yow, I can now see what is happening, deploy the weapon, ignore the other vessel.Its fate is of no consequence. When you have destroyed the smaller vessel, attack the other and destroy it.”
“At once Highness, deploy weapon as soon as the Fusion Inverters are ready.” Lelanora watched as the Raptor moved in closer, she too was aware of how huge and imposing the ship was, likewise she had never seen anything so powerful, she was mesmerized by its detail.
What a shame, thought Lelanora, to destroy such a craft ? Seizing it would offer up a new Fendiq Sovereign Class Flagship. She was about to tell Czehort, to attempt to board the vessel and seize it, when the front of it illuminated. Energy washed across the two giant probes at the front of it. Flashed across smaller probes, before it emitted a massive flare of colored light.
Not blinding but bright! The light, was increasing in strength. More and more flashes of light streaming across it, up towards the two probes at the front, like giant pincers outstretched ? Getting brighter and brighter, until the colours died away.
There was only the purest white light.The intensity of it was beyond anything Lelanora had ever seen. It streamed out, flaring out, flooding across eveything in its path ? Lelanora froze, transfixed, remembering child hood stories, one in particular about Cistera’s father Ka Colfra and the Alien being ? The one who had come to his aid against the Urowq?
It could not be ! The story was just that, a story, a legend! Her thoughts were rudely interrupted. There was a weird hissing sound from Raptor. The light increased ten fold from the almost blinding strength
it was, to one that was so bright, you could not look upon it,
To do so at such an intensity, would have burned the retina in your eyes, leaving you blind ? Fear? Lelanora was shaking with fear.Cistera had watched the same thing happen, before the NEb had informed them that the chromatic shields were being deployed, so that they could still view proceedings but would be protected from any white light effect, eyes protected ?
Cistera could see how the weapon was combining the energy levels to an intensity where she suspected it would cause a fusion reaction within the energy streams. The moment the reaction went critical, the light intensity would increase way beyond what it had been. The end result she may have anticipated, the truth was, what followed left her speechless.
Shielding nodes on the zimp blinked and sparked until the light died down, the Zmet was gone.
As though it had never been there, not a piece of scrap, nothing there! Everything her father had told her was true. Once again she looked over to Nathan still sleeping, moved over to him to lean down and gently plant a kiss on his cheek. There were no doubts about it, here was her father’s KaLasec.
There was loud ear piercing squeal from Tan ! “ Zeid ! Starburst don’t I just love you ! You there Dees” “You coming home babe or we got to drag you in and Nathan’s gonna be real mad at you Tan, for missing that show” Tan laughed. “First time in ages since we deployed that as a weapon and still as good since Noge retweaked it ! Zeid would be real proud!”
The Starburst weapon, I discovered was a weapon designed by a scientist called Zeid, Noge a friend of Nathan’s had redesigned the fusion inverters, to create a formidable weapon. Noge was into armaments and weapons. Starburst with its particle acceleration units, coupled with the fusion reactors, were tweaked to deliver one hell of a punch of energy. Deflected by nodes, which blocked the energy, from damaging Raptor.
Zanthian crystals gave the energy pulse its pure white light and absorbed any stray energy Megallian crystals focused the beams making them 40 times more powerful and the Spectrovex array, created a rippling, sheet effect. Dispersing the white light along hundreds of grid lines.
Tanya was unbearable! Sense of relief. I tolerated her high spirits, with her waking Nathan up as he heard the news. She infuriated me with the way she kept blocking my path as I tried to get close to him.
I was pleased to see her otherwise occupied leaving me to talk to Nathan as we took the Zimp and docked with the Raptor.’
