All Jogarth know, from the day they are conceived accept as a norm, that death is something that happens, with their race its a fact of life or maybe not! But either way death is accepted as perfectly normal HOWEVER to other Kets including Anora herself which infuriated her brothers and her sisters. She was strongly, of the opinion that NO WAY not NOW not NEVER, was a much better choice on her part and this THING, she recognized from her race’s folklore, as vicious, violent and obsessed, with killing; was going to kill her, unless she fought back but HOW?
The Jogarth are renown for their cunning and Anora, lacking some of the finer Jogarth assets or not, when it came to slavery and other crimes against other races, puzzled over how she could defeat such a thing? She wanted to show strength of purpose, a will, a desire to be seen by the Kets as being able to fend for herself. Doona stepped forward and placed some Mec into her hand? He whispers to her? Anora shifted to within feet of the creature?
Now dropped to her knees before the creature who the others were horrified to note appears ecstatic about her imposition. The act implied capitulation, a freebie snack before the main course? Thus it could be excused, for thinking, this would be an easy kill, it went in for the kill as Anora grasped the Mec. Suddenly springing to her feet and throwing it at the creature’s eyes, the Mec and the fact that it contained certain corrosive elements, now made it, rub its eyes, only to make things worse?
Anora kicked out at it, she caught it on the only Achilles heel it had! Totally known to her of course! Had it not been the subject of folklore? Had she not eagerly read all about it? Did the story not end with the defeat of the creature, thanks to its opponent knowing it's Achilles heel? Oh yes it was a gamble, but Anora was pretty sure, what she had done, was going to be just as in the story. The downfall of the creature!
The Mec was eating into the creature with devastating effect. There was a scream from it as it toppled forwards, unable to stand? Swaying, before collapsing in a heap. Anora had wisely stepped to the side of it. Rising dust, causing her and some other Kets to cough! Amidst the cheers from the other Kets including Illia, who had been watching from the back, not intervening to save his sister, rather hoping, she might get disposed off, before he had the irksome task, of doing it himself? Unknown to all of them, the creature could not, would not have been permitted to kill any of them. Beat then around, play with its food but it would have vanished before it could kill.
She would not know it, but at that moment in time, she had surprised Illia. He had been impressed, by her courage. COURAGE! Not forgetting her CUNNING! She might, make a Jogarth Empress, uhh, actually no, no way! BUT! Still an impressive display of courage. There was a big cheer from the Kets. Seconds later the creature vanished. "Did you see the fangs on that thing! I bet they take some cleaning." "As for flossing!" The Kets fell about laughing.
The Gaisek had had enough! It was enraged. And the blasted Ping Pong game was nearing its final level. It could NOT allow the game players to win. It knew all too well what that would mean. Access to the core and the Crystal. The Gaisek would be robbed of the final showdown. ‘Not on my watch’ springs to mind.
Claria was stood away from the other Kets as she raised her arm, looking into the distance of the Cashak, her hand screening the gathering light from her eyes, as she peered then squealed “Time distortion vortex and its headed right this way. If we get trapped in it we’re doomed.“ “What’s a time distortion Vortex?”
Becci stared at Ronan. Taon interrupted them. “Its a part of time, that is corrupted, so it keeps objects or US if it gets to us, in stasis. A kind of second dimension, but not cos we don’t actually exist, in the real dimension, its a kind of paradox. Or so I've read. Never seen one before until now!“ Taon shook her head rolled her eyes as Becci stamped her feet flung her arms down by her side “What it is, is irrelevant, what it does is!"
"Becci is perfectly right, we need to find a way out of this place and fast.“ “We could try that door over there.“ Becci spun round stared at Edram. “What door “ “That door.” He pointed at the door in the side of the Cashak. “UHH? That wasn’t there just now.“ “Well before it disappears again, I suggest we open it and find out what’s behind it.“ "But we don't know what is behind that."
Ronan scowled as Becci glared at her. “That or that “ She pointed to the Vortex heading their way? The door? Most agreed it was a far better gamble than that. “It’s locked! Needs a code to open it!“ Aisha pushed past Ameryst stared at the panel next to the hatch, opened it. “This is old. Ridiculously old! Whoever put this here, has little or no knowledge of the latest tech, I could hack this in my sleep.“ Becci was impatient. “Aisha!“
“Get on with it we’re running out of time!“
