“Its quite a distance.“ Becci stared at the unit, Ornatha moved closer, “Is there a more direct route?” Sadowan was now checking everyone had their suits adjusted right. “Not too hot, unless you like it hot. Remember, we have to walk, at a steady pace Anyone not use to the distance we’re going to cover bout 5 miles, before we pitch camp?”
Everyone seemed quite happy. “Good.” “Ocasa looked at her. “Its further than that to the hut.“ “We’re not going straight to the hut.“ Sadowan smiled. “We take it steady. Rest, food, fluids will keep our minds keen and us fit. NOT tired and unable to think properly, or nursing bruises and blisters. The challenge should be taken seriously, but not at the cost of the team’s morale. We’ve got plenty of time, to seize the hut. Having it too soon, means we have to spend our time holding onto it.
Waiting, observing those who have it, means we’ve got time to plan properly, how to take it off them, keep it. Whilst we relax a little, get to know each other, our strengths, our weaknesses.“ Fre nodded as Meladi moved to talk to Opheliad. “You OK?” Opheliad smiled. “I have to have a moment of prayer at certain times, but I don’t think that will be a problem if we maintain a reasonable pace, when walking.
However Ocasa keeps looking over at me, I am concerned he does not know of my peoples? Some would think him rude, others would take great offence.” “I’ll talk to him. Have you told Sadowan?” “I thought she might have known?” Meladi smiled “I’ll make sure she knows.” Sadowan had taken Ocasa to one side, he was not fond of the Vendaran’s so he was being polite but fidgeting. “Its important, you don’t offend Opheliad.“
She looked at Ocasa, that look on his face of indignation? “Their race is very religious, its forbidden for her to have close contact with any male even her father. She feels uncomfortable with the way you keep looking at her.“ Ocasa shrugged his shoulders. “I’ll apologise to her, its not intentional. Curious is all.” Sadowan reasoned that he, had the GPT message. As to whether it was going to sink in, she was not sure, but she had tried her best, now all she could hope for, was that he wouldn’t offend Opheliad.
She suggested he took a female with him when he approached Orphelliad. That way she would not feel compromised. On their way and it took them less time, than they had thought, to reach the spot, where now Sadowan insisted; they make camp. Each carried an item to make up the dome area, as they first laid out the groundsheets, then the main dome, to place what we would have called carbon rods or fibre glass rods through for the main supports.
“Anietta.” Becci’s voice boomed out from the other side of the dome “You hooked and tied?” Anietta was struggling to lock off the clip as now Xugan stepped up to help her. “Thanks." He smiled. Becci stood back, looked at the structure in place. “Amazing isn’t it how the simple accomodation unit can be so adaptable, light and reliable protection against the elements.“ She shivered.
“Definitely getting colder.“ Soon they were inside. Placing the inner sleeved compartments into place. It was then Fre and Ocasa started moaning. “I don’t know why we didn’t go on further. We’re wasting time.“ Garian and Meladi were arguing with them “Rubbish. Sadowan is right. Too much in one trip is silly. We’ve got four days.“ “But if one team holds the hut for 24 hours then we lose.“ Sadowan came in
“They won’t hold it for twenty four hours. Not to start with. Too much pressure from the others.” Ocasa shook his head. “So you’re telling me the closer you get to the final deadline, we’re not going to be under pressure, to grab the hut or hold it?“ Sadowan smiled which irritated Ocasa. “I don’t see we have anything to laugh about.“ Sadowan saw Xugan move towards them, he sensed some hostilitiy between Ocasa and Sadowan.
Close to coming to blows? “Trust me, I know what I’m doing. Of course we will all be under pressure. Wouldn’t be a challenge without that, BUT when it happens we will all be prepared for it. Each will know what they have to do and the team will work fluidly as a team. Now who’s cooking?”
